Show Notes

In this podcast, I review the book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. This is the fascinating chronicle of the rise and fall of entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes and her Medtech startup business, Theranos.  Holmes' great ambition to disrupt the medical testing industry with the miniLab device, that would be capable of conducting hundreds of blood tests from a few drops of blood drawn from a finger prick, proved to be science fiction.  The book details the lies, deceit and atrocious management practices that resulted in the company burning through almost $1 billion in funding, and ended with Holmes and the company COO and President Ramesh 'Sunny' Balwani, being indicted on federal fraud charges.   A fascinating read and a powerful cautionary tale in this world of over-hype.
