Show Notes

Enlightened Entrepreneurs: Business Ethics in Victorian Britain, explores the lives of ten men who from humble and in many cases very poor backgrounds, created thriving industrial businesses, many of which continue today.  The names of Boots Pharmacy. Unilever, Cadbury, Colman Mustard and Rowntree Sweets are household names in England and around the world. The book focusses on the faith and value of these men and how this led to ethically practices and philanthropic works during and after their lives.  From universities and libraries to model communities and theatres, these men took their wealth and influence seriously and applied much of it to their communities and employees.

This is an important book for our time - in a world so bereft of ethical practice, the lives of these ten men are an important lesson for us all.
